77,079 residents in 2021, 92,544 in 2025 (Statistics Canada estimates)

Alberta charges 2% on the first $500,000 of a small business corporation’s taxable income. With the 9% federal small business rate, that slice is taxed at 11%. Above $500,000 the Alberta general rate is 8%, which Alberta describes as the lowest of any province, so the combined rate with the 15% federal rate is 23%.

Alberta is one of the provinces that collects its own corporate tax, which is why the CRA’s provincial rate table leaves it out. In practice an Airdrie corporation files two returns every year: the federal T2 with the CRA, and the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration, under its Alberta corporate account number. A few things catch owners out:

Alberta’s 2026 personal brackets start at 8% on taxable income up to $61,200 and step up to 15% above $370,220, on top of federal rates of 14% to 33%. For an owner choosing between salary and dividends, those Alberta steps are part of the year-end calculation we run before any money comes out of the company.

Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so 5% GST is the only sales tax on an Alberta sale. Registration becomes mandatory once taxable sales pass $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four quarters in a row. A sale whose place of supply is a harmonized province is invoiced at that province’s HST rate instead, for example 13% for a service supplied in Ontario.

Statistics Canada estimates Airdrie had 77,079 residents in 2021 and 92,544 in 2025, about 20% growth in four years. In the 2021 census, of the 22,570 Airdrie residents with a usual place of work, 8,880 worked in Airdrie itself and 12,700 commuted to another municipality in Census Division No. 6, the census division that also contains Calgary.

Alberta taxes the first $500,000 of a small business corporation’s taxable income at 2%, and the federal small business rate of 9% sits on top, so that income is taxed at 11%. Profit above $500,000 pays Alberta’s 8% general rate, the lowest of any province, plus 15% federal, for 23%.

Yes. Alberta collects its own corporate income tax, so besides the federal T2 a corporation with a permanent establishment in Alberta files the AT1 return with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration. It is due six months after the year end, and for tax years starting after 31 December 2024 it must be filed electronically or a $1,000 penalty applies.

No. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so a business registered for GST charges 5% on sales made in Alberta. Registration is required once taxable sales go over $30,000 in a calendar quarter or across four consecutive quarters.

Yes, the Innovation Employment Grant. It pays 8% of eligible R&D spending in Alberta up to the corporation’s base level and 20% above it, on up to $4 million of spending a year, and it is claimed on Schedule 29 of the AT1 return with no separate application.
